I’m dealing with an addiction to social media that I believe has been influenced by Meta’s algorithms. I’ve experienced financial, emotional, and even physical harm from this addiction. I’ve got medical records and documents that show the impact it’s had on my life. Has anyone tried pursuing a case like this against Meta? I’m not sure how much to seek in damages or what to expect.
Sounds tough. Social media addiction is real, and I know it’s impacted a lot of people. I’d think a lawyer could help calculate the damages based on your medical costs and other losses.

Thanks! Yeah, I’ll need to find someone who knows this kind of case well.

It might be worth talking to a lawyer who’s handled cases like those against tobacco companies. Similar concept in terms of proving addiction.
You might be able to sue if you can show how the algorithms intentionally pushed addictive content. Hard to prove, but not impossible with expert help.

Exactly. It’s the manipulation and influence I’d want to focus on, since it feels pretty intentional.

Totally. An IT expert could be useful to explain how the algorithms work and show that influence.
Meta would probably try to argue it’s personal responsibility, like with alcohol. You’d need strong proof of manipulation.

Yeah, that’s my worry too. Hoping the documents I have make a solid case.

If they’ve made statements that downplay the risks of social media addiction, that could work in your favor.
Have you thought about class action? If there are others like you, it could strengthen the case.

Hadn’t thought of that, but maybe worth exploring. I know others are dealing with similar issues.

Yeah, class actions can make companies pay attention, and it might increase the chances of success.
In cases like this, damages could be substantial if you can show long-term effects. But the exact amount would depend on your specific losses and any expert testimony.

Makes sense. I’ll have to see what the lawyer says about estimating all those costs.
