Can military recall someone for something they hid before enlisting?

So I found out that my ex lied on his military application about something serious from when he was under 18. He’s medically retired now with 100% VA disability. Just curious… could this ever come back to bite him?

From what I know, if the military finds out, they could technically do something, but I think it depends on how serious it is and how long ago it happened.

Yeah, it was from a while back… like, before he was even 18. He didn’t disclose it on the application, but I found the court stuff recently. He’s already out though, so IDK if they’d even care?

I think with minor stuff they don’t usually look into it after retirement unless it’s really bad. But, lying about it is still a risk.

I’ve read that for serious stuff, they could recall him. But I think there’s like a 5-year limit for something like that?

Good to know! It’s been more than five years since he joined, so maybe it’s past that time frame.

Exactly, after five years it’s unlikely they’d take any action. They’d only dig into it if it was something major, like a criminal case.

Does it matter if he was medically retired? Would the VA look into it?

Nah, the VA doesn’t really look at stuff like this. It’s more the military that could take action if they found out.

Thanks! That’s what I thought too. Just wanted to make sure since it’s a pretty big lie.

Honestly, they’re probably not going to come after him unless someone specifically reports it. And even then, they’d have to prove it all over again.

Yeah, exactly. I was just worried it might pop up somehow if someone did decide to report it.

I think you’re good then. They’re usually only strict on active-duty stuff, and he’s already out.

If it’s not affecting his benefits or pay, I’d say let sleeping dogs lie. Military’s probably not gonna worry about it unless it’s, like, super serious.

Yeah, you’re probably right. Just wanted to be sure, since he’s technically getting benefits for his service.

Agreed, as long as he’s not causing any issues, they’re unlikely to revisit the past.
