Can you modify a parenting plan without going to court?

I’m seeking some advice regarding modifying a parenting plan in Florida. My ex and I have come to a mutual agreement to adjust the current plan to better suit our child’s needs. However, we’re both hoping to avoid the hassle and expense of going back to court. Is it possible to modify our parenting plan without having to go through the court process? If so, what steps do we need to take to make it legally binding?

If you and your ex agree on changing the parenting plan, you can do it without going to court. Just write down the new agreement, sign it, and file it with the court for legal recognition. It’s a straightforward way to update things without the hassle of a court battle.

It could vary by state. In Pennsylvania, we contacted the custody office, received a blank court order which we filled out, both signed, sent it back to the judge, and it was approved.

If you both agree, then why not.
