The Army is charging me $8,682.77 for lost government equipment that I wasn’t responsible for. When my ETS date came up, I only had one day to clear post, so my commander assigned a proxy to finalize my clearing. That proxy never did their job, and now I’m stuck with this FLIPL. I even have a memo signed by my commander proving they were assigned as my proxy. Has anyone dealt with something like this before? Any advice on what to do?
Wow, that sounds so stressful. Did you include the signed memo in your rebuttal?

Yeah, I did. I even showed how the proxy failed to do what they were assigned to. Still no luck.
@Val
That’s so frustrating. Did they explain why they’re ignoring your evidence?
@Val
Sounds like they’re just being stubborn. Maybe it’s time to escalate this higher up?
Wait, what’s a FLIPL? Sorry, I’m not super familiar with military terms.

No worries! It stands for Financial Liability Investigation of Property Loss. Basically, they think I owe them for missing equipment.

Ugh, that sounds like a nightmare. Is there a chance they messed up their paperwork?
I’ve heard of cases like this before. Have you tried going through a legal advisor or a VSO (Veterans Service Officer)?

Not yet, but I might have to. Do VSOs handle stuff like this?
@Val
Yeah, they can help with military-related claims and disputes. Definitely worth checking out.
Did they really claim you refused to do what was needed? That sounds shady if you have proof otherwise.

Exactly! I have evidence they lied under oath. It’s like they’re trying to cover up their own mistakes.
@Val
If you can prove they lied, wouldn’t that help your case? Maybe consult someone who knows military law.
Are you worried they won’t drop the charges even with your evidence? What’s your backup plan?

Yeah, I’m worried. My plan is to keep submitting rebuttals and maybe get legal advice if it goes nowhere.
@Val
Sounds like a solid plan. Keep fighting—sounds like you’re in the right here.
