Coventry Homes contract issues... anyone else?

Hey everyone, I’ve got a question about a Coventry Homes new-build contract in Texas. We signed it and paid a $20K earnest deposit, but now they’re asking for a 10% option money deposit. We’ve raised concerns about some changes to the original contract, like removing the double doors we chose, but their customer service has been nonexistent. They’re threatening to cancel the contract and keep our deposit if we don’t pay. Has anyone dealt with something like this? Any advice?

Wow, that sounds super frustrating. Did they explain why they removed the double doors? Or is it just radio silence?

Yeah, no explanation at all. We sent a letter to management, but still nothing. They’re quick when it’s about money though.

Sounds like they’re trying to bully you into paying. Do you know if your earnest money is in escrow?

@Addison
Good question! I don’t know for sure. Any idea how to find that out?

@Addison
It should be in your contract. If it’s escrowed, there are usually stricter rules about keeping it.

Is the 10% for upgrades? I’ve heard it’s pretty standard, but it’s wild that they won’t address your concerns first.

Yeah, it’s for upgrades. We’re willing to pay, but they just keep dodging our questions. So frustrating!

Sounds like terrible customer service. Maybe send a formal complaint to their corporate office?

Do they have a clause in your contract about making changes? Builders love to sneak that in.

Good point. I’ll check, but it feels shady when they won’t even talk to us about it.

If it’s in the contract, they might be covered. But they should still be better at communicating.

Did you end up paying the deposit? Curious how it all worked out for you.

Yeah, we went ahead and paid. Still no response from them about our issues, though. Not happy about it.

Ugh, classic. Hope it gets resolved soon. Keep us posted!
