Do half siblings' school issues matter in custody battles?

Hey everyone… quick question about custody battles. If there’s a court case for my kindergartner, do the older half siblings’ school issues come into play? Their mom has five kids total, and my child is the youngest with a different dad. I’m seeking primary custody, but the older kids are struggling in school. Just wondering if any of this might affect my case… any thoughts?

I think it can, especially if the older kids have serious issues. It might show the court the environment isn’t great for your child.

Yeah, I’d definitely mention it. If the older siblings are struggling, it could raise flags about how the kids are supported at home.

But what if the mom argues it’s unrelated? Like, it’s a different kid?

@Dallas
That could happen, but it might still be relevant. The court looks at the overall family situation.

Have you talked to a lawyer about this? They might give you better advice on how to present it in court.

I agree with JKL. A lawyer can help you gather evidence and show how it affects your child’s well-being.

It sounds like the mom isn’t keeping you in the loop about your kid’s progress either, which might also be a point for you.

Right? Communication is key, especially in these situations. Have you reached out to the teacher?

@Kendall
Yeah, I did reach out for practice material. Just trying to help my kid catch up.
