Do I have to jump again this soon... or can I skip it?

Hey guys, I just completed my first jump today and was told I’m supposed to jump again this Wednesday. I’m not hurt or anything, so I’m wondering, do I HAVE to jump again so soon if I’m not hurt? I thought you didn’t need to jump again that quickly. If I refuse, what could happen? Anyone been in this situation before?

Yeah, that’s pretty common. They want to keep you sharp, especially in the 82nd. You gotta stay ready for anything. If you don’t jump, it could be a big deal though, like you might face a UCMJ violation. No joke.

@Morgan
Wait, what’s a UCMJ violation? Sorry, just want to make sure I understand…

No problem! UCMJ is the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Basically, it’s the law for military personnel. So, refusing an order like a jump can get you in trouble.

I think you just need to show you’re good to go and follow orders. If you’re not injured, they might expect you to keep jumping. But yeah, not jumping could mess with your career too.

Does this mean you could be taken out of the Airborne unit if you refuse too often?

@Dawson
Exactly! They could transfer you out or even revoke your parachutist badge. Not worth it unless you really need to skip.

Not gonna lie, I had to jump twice in one month before. It’s rough, but it’s part of the job. You don’t want to risk getting a bad record over one jump.

Man, I would be so nervous doing that! I can barely handle one jump, lol.

@Toby
I totally get that. It’s scary at first, but you get used to it. Just trust the process!

If you’re feeling hesitant, talk to your superiors or someone you trust in the unit. There might be some wiggle room if you have a legit reason. Just don’t leave them hanging!

I agree, just be open with your chain of command. If you’re not up for it mentally or physically, they’ll understand. You don’t want to push yourself too hard.

Also, just FYI, if you’re really not feeling it, there’s a process for refusing a jump. But it’s not as simple as just saying no—you’ll need a good reason, like a medical issue.

Thanks for the heads-up. I wasn’t sure if it was as easy as saying no. I’ll talk to my guys and see what’s up.
