Hey all, I have a bit of a situation and I’m not sure what to do about it. I had an arrest back in 2017 that was dismissed and expunged, but I’m applying for a medical license in Georgia now. I know the record was wiped clean, but do I still need to mention it on the application? The arrest didn’t lead to any conviction or plea deal. Anyone know how this works for a medical license application?
Hey, I think you generally don’t have to report an expunged arrest. It’s like it never happened. But I’d check with the board just to be sure.

Yeah, same here. But I’ve heard that some boards still find out through the NCIC database even if it’s expunged. Could be worth double-checking with a lawyer.
@Keagan
Oh wow, didn’t know that. Thanks for the heads up, I’ll look into that. I guess transparency is key.
Just to add, if the board does find it, it’s probably a good idea to voluntarily mention it. Just explain that it was expunged and dismissed. Helps avoid any confusion.

Agreed, transparency is probably your best bet. Better to be upfront than have them find out later and think you were hiding something.
I’ve been through something similar. My background check showed an old arrest that was expunged, but I just explained it and everything was fine. They didn’t take it against me.

That’s reassuring to hear. I’ll make sure to explain everything clearly if needed.
I know it’s nerve-wracking, but I think you’ll be fine. The expungement pretty much means it’s like it never happened, so I wouldn’t worry too much.

Thanks for that! I feel a bit better now.
I’d recommend you talk to a lawyer if you’re worried, but honestly, from my experience, as long as it’s expunged, it shouldn’t be an issue. They care more about whether you’re fit to practice.

Yeah, a quick chat with a lawyer could really help clear things up. Better safe than sorry.
