I just got a script from my doctor for a Handicap Placard on 10/17/24. I’ve filled out my part of the application and my doctor’s part too. Do I need to make an appointment at the DMV to submit it and get my placard, or can I just walk in? Also, where do I set up an appointment if needed?
You don’t need an appointment. You can just walk into the DMV and hand in your application. They usually have the placard behind the counter.

Oh, that’s a relief! I was worried I’d need to schedule something. Any tips on when’s the best time to go?
@Noor
Yeah, try to go early, like right when they open. That way you’ll avoid long lines!
You don’t need to call or make an appointment for the placard in Texas. Just walk in with your completed application and doctor’s script.

That’s good to know! I wasn’t sure if they’d make you set up an appointment. Do you just give them the form and wait?
@Ellis
Yep, just hand them your form and they’ll process it. It’s usually pretty quick if you go at a good time.
No appointment needed! Just walk into the DMV with your completed form and your doctor’s note. They should give you the placard right there.

Thanks for confirming that! I was stressing over calling to make an appointment. Glad to hear it’s that easy.
Yeah, you don’t need an appointment for this. Just show up with your paperwork and they’ll give you the placard. FYI, it’s best to go in the morning when they open to avoid the rush.

Got it, thanks! I’ll plan to go first thing. Hopefully it’ll be a smooth process!
You just walk in with the filled-out application and doctor’s script. No need to call or make an appointment at all. Just make sure to go early to avoid long waits.

Great, I was worried I’d have to wait forever. I’ll make sure to get there early. Thanks for the info!
