Do I need to do anything when my California driver’s license expires if I live in the Philippines?

Hey everyone, I recently moved to the Philippines and my California driver’s license isn’t set to expire until 2028. Since I’m not planning to drive anymore, do I need to do anything about it when it expires? Anyone been in a similar situation?

From what I know, if you’re not planning to drive in California anymore, there’s no real need to renew it. If you’re not a resident or driving there, you’re good.

Yeah, that’s right. If you’re in the Philippines, you’d probably need a local license if you plan on driving there.

@Terry
Oh, I’m not planning to drive at all! But good to know I should keep it in mind if I ever need to.

I agree with ABC, but also, if you need any ID for banking or anything, it might be worth keeping your California ID updated. A lot of places ask for a valid U.S. ID even overseas.

Oh, didn’t even think about that. I’ll keep my California ID in mind, thanks for the tip!

Just FYI, if you’re planning to drive in the Philippines, you might need a local driver’s license. An expired U.S. license won’t cut it there.

Got it! Since I’m not driving, I don’t think I need to worry about that.

Definitely check out the California DMV’s guidelines, just to be sure. They’ve got info on what to do if you’re living abroad.

Good idea! I’ve checked it out before, they have info on renewing IDs too if you need one.

You’re all right, there’s no rush to do anything. But keeping your ID valid for situations like traveling or banking is a good idea.

I’ll definitely keep my ID updated. Appreciate all the info, everyone!
