Does an MPO affect gun use or deployment?

I’ve got an MPO issued against me after a no-contact order expired. I wished my ex a happy birthday a month later, and they issued it in response. The block about disposing of firearms doesn’t have N/A under it, but the other ones do. Does this mean I can’t use firearms, and will it stop me from deploying?

I think it just means you can’t keep firearms at home, not that you can’t use them at all. Did you get a copy of the MPO?

Yeah, I got a copy. It doesn’t say anything specific about stopping me from using firearms.

If that block isn’t marked N/A, it probably just means you need to follow rules for storing them. You’re fine for deployment.

Does an MPO impact your clearance? Like, could it cause issues later?

From what I’ve heard, it shouldn’t unless there are criminal charges involved. Mine is just the MPO, no charges.

Yeah, you’re probably good then. Clearances only get tricky when there’s something criminal.

Just curious, what’s an MPO? Never had to deal with that.

It’s a Military Protective Order. Basically, it’s like a restraining order but issued within the military system.

Ah, gotcha. Thanks for explaining. That makes more sense now.

Doesn’t sound like you’ll have issues unless you break the rules of the MPO. Just make sure you’re following it.

Yeah, I’m definitely sticking to the rules. Just wanted to double-check on the firearm and deployment stuff.

Better safe than sorry. Always good to check, especially when it comes to clearances.
