Employer shredded my final check after I was fired... what now?

So I got fired from FedEx a few months ago over their weed policy, and now I’m dealing with a pretty wild situation. My final check never came, and instead, I got this unemployment form saying my check was shredded. IDK how that even happens… I assumed they’d just mail it or do direct deposit. I really don’t have the money to sue, so I’m feeling kinda lost. Anyone know what I can do?

Wow, that’s really messed up. Have you tried reaching out to HR to see what’s going on?

I haven’t yet, but I’ll definitely give that a shot. Thanks!

You might want to file a claim with the California labor board. They can help with wage disputes.

Is that easy to do? I’ve never heard of it before.

Yeah, it’s pretty straightforward. Just fill out the forms online. Worth a shot!

That sounds really frustrating. Have you considered looking for legal aid? They might help without charging a ton.

I didn’t think of that! I’ll see if there’s any local groups that can help.

Honestly, you might just want to consult with a lawyer. Many offer free consultations, so it won’t hurt to ask.

That’s a good point. I’ll definitely look into it. Thanks for the advice!

I would document everything too. Keep records of all your communications with them. It might help later.
