"Enlever" or "kidnapper"?

What term ought I to use? I’ve actually seen the word “kidnapper” used, but my teacher demands we use “enlever” in class. Which is better, the one or the other?

Both of them are employed. Since you’ll know what it means instantly if you hear the English-sounding one, I’m sure your teacher wants you to utilize the one that isn’t the same as in English.

To be honest, they’re about as prevalent as each other and can be used interchangeably in my experience. Use “enlever” if your teacher requests that you do so. You used that word, so no one will find it difficult to understand you, and it won’t cost you any points. Remember that there is also a word called “kidnapper,” which is the French equivalent of “kidnap,” so it shouldn’t be too difficult to find.
