Got a 100mph speeding ticket in California... how can I avoid license suspension?

I just got a speeding ticket for going 100mph in Anaheim, California. I’m due in court in February, and IDK what to do. I’m willing to pay fines and take the points on my record, but I really want to avoid having my license suspended. Anyone know what steps I can take to avoid that?

Yikes, 100mph is a big one. First off, definitely hire a lawyer who knows traffic cases. They might be able to negotiate the charge down or get you alternative penalties like community service. Also, if you’ve got a clean driving record, that’s something to bring up in court!

@Nevin
Thanks for the tip! I haven’t had any infractions in the last 5 years, so I’ll definitely bring that up in court. Hopefully, that helps.

Yeah, if you’ve got a solid driving history, the judge might go easier on you. Some courts even let you do things like traffic school, but not sure about over 100mph. Still, it can’t hurt to ask. Also, try explaining why you were speeding, if there were any emergency situations or something like that.

@Delaney
I’ll mention that! I’m hoping my driving history will help me out here. If anything, I’ll just explain how out of character this is for me.

Yeah, in California, you can get a fine, two points, and possibly a 30-day suspension for something like this. It’s not easy, but the court sometimes lets you pay higher fines or do community service instead of a suspension, especially if you’ve been a good driver otherwise.

@Devi
That’s good to know! I’m hoping they’ll let me do something like that. I’ll definitely bring up my clean record and the impact a suspension would have on my life.

Also, don’t forget to get your driving record from the DMV. That’ll help show the court that this speeding ticket is more of a one-time thing rather than a pattern. It’ll make a big difference!

Oh, good idea! I’ll get that before my court date. Thanks for the heads up.

Just a heads up: Traffic school isn’t usually an option for speeds over 100mph in California, but it’s worth asking the judge. They might offer other alternatives like probation or community service.

Gotcha! I’ll keep that in mind. I’d love to avoid the suspension and keep my license. Thanks for the advice!
