So, I got pulled over in Pennsylvania for reckless driving and now have a $171 ticket. Honestly, I’m not sure what my options are here. Should I just pay it or try to fight it? Anyone been through this and have advice?
If it’s just $171, it might be easier to pay it, but reckless driving could add points to your license. Check that out first.

Yeah, I heard about the points. Any idea how many it could add?

Reckless driving in PA adds 3 points, I think. Might be worth looking into traffic school to avoid them.
You could try contesting it if you think the charge is too harsh. Did the officer explain why they wrote it as reckless?

Not really, just said I was driving too aggressively. I didn’t think it was that bad.

Sometimes they overdo it with the reckless charge. A lawyer might be able to get it reduced to something less serious.
Have you checked if fighting it would cost more than the ticket itself? Sometimes lawyers and court fees add up quick.

Good point. I might just pay it if it’s going to cost more to fight.

If it’s your first offense, paying might be the simplest option. Just keep an eye on your insurance rates though.
If you were driving aggressively, you might want to take defensive driving anyway. It can help with insurance and future tickets.

That’s a good idea. Do they offer those online in PA?

Yeah, lots of online courses available. Just make sure it’s approved by the state.
If you decide to fight it, local traffic lawyers usually offer free consultations. Worth a call to see your chances.

Didn’t think of that. I’ll look into local lawyers, thanks!

Avvo or Justia are good places to find lawyers near you. Easy to check reviews too.
