So, I found out that a doctor filed a suspension on my California driver’s license saying I have dementia… but I don’t have it. This all started on October 24, 2024. Anyone know what I can do to get my license reinstated? What’s the best way to deal with this?
Yikes, that sounds really stressful. I’d definitely start by contacting the California DMV’s Driver Safety Office. They deal with situations like this and can help you contest the suspension.

Yeah, a hearing would be your next step. You can present evidence that you don’t have dementia and challenge the doctor’s report. Good luck with that!
@Devin
For sure, and get a second opinion from a doctor if you can. That’ll really help your case.
Wow, that’s rough. If the doctor didn’t do a full assessment, that could be an issue. Maybe report them to the Medical Board if you feel they didn’t do their job properly.

Yeah, if they just made assumptions, that’s a big deal. You should absolutely look into filing a complaint with the Medical Board. It might help your case even more.
I’d suggest getting a report from another doctor to back up your side. A cognitive health expert could make a huge difference here.

Thanks! I’ll try to get a second opinion, definitely. Hopefully that helps clear things up.
Just be sure to schedule your hearing with the DMV ASAP, as there are usually time limits for requesting a review. Don’t wait too long!
I’ve heard DMV cases like this can drag on, but having a second opinion could really speed things up. Definitely get a specialist if you can!

I’ll make sure to get all my ducks in a row. Thanks for the tips!
