So, I hit a deer 2 weeks after I lowered my deductible and added rental coverage to my policy. The reason for doing this was because there had been several deer wrecks in my area recently. Anyway, I filed a claim and sent all the necessary documents, including photos. But now, they are asking for pictures of my car before the deer hit me. Honestly, I’m at a loss here. I got an oil change like 7 or 8 days before the accident from a mobile mechanic. He always takes pictures of his work for his business promo. Do you think those pics would work or is it still questionable? I’m stuck and don’t know what to do next… any advice?
That sounds frustrating! Did you already explain to them about the oil change pics? Might help if you just clarify that the mechanic took those photos right before the accident. Could be enough proof.

Yeah, definitely mention it. Maybe ask the mechanic if they can confirm the date of the pics too. That could help show they’re recent and legit.
I think the photos from the mechanic should work, honestly. Since he does that as part of his work, it’s more than likely fine. But it might not hurt to get a receipt or something from him just to be safe.
@Harley
Yeah, a receipt might add more weight to it. If you can get one, definitely send it over. Sounds like that could help with the timeline too.
Oh man, that’s a tough one. I would totally try to explain to them that the photos are from the oil change right before the crash. Maybe if you can even get a statement from the mechanic about the pics, that would help?

I can get a receipt for the oil change! Do you think that would make a difference?
@Gerald
Yeah, definitely! A receipt would tie everything together and show the pics were taken right before the accident. It’s worth a try for sure.
I’ve dealt with insurance stuff like this before. The photos might work, but I’d still try to explain the timing of everything. Maybe include the mechanic’s pics + the receipt to show they were taken just days before. They should be reasonable with that!
Ugh, I get the struggle. It’s annoying when they ask for extra stuff like that. I’d say mention the oil change pics and also highlight that the deductible change was recent—helps show you weren’t trying to ‘game’ the system.
