How can I find out where my wiretap order was filed?

I recently found out that a wiretap was obtained against me in Florida, but I’m not sure which court it was filed in. The Florida state attorney, along with the state attorneys in Washington D.C. and New York, are all involved. I’m in New York now and have no idea how to get more details about it. Any advice on how I can file an injunction against this when I don’t even know which court it’s in?

Wow, that sounds intense. I think the federal clerk wouldn’t be able to help since state wiretap orders are sealed. You might need to find a way to get more info on which court actually filed it.

Yeah, I agree. The federal court can’t access it unless it’s been filed there directly, which seems unlikely. You might need to ask the Florida state authorities directly… but they might not share that info easily.

@Zen
I get it, so I’d probably have to go through the civil route then? I’m not sure how to go about it.

If you’re in New York and don’t know whether it’s in Fort Myers or Tampa, I think you’re in a tricky spot. You could file an injunction in the NY court, but getting the info about the wiretap might need some serious legal effort.

@Austin
Yeah, this is definitely more complicated than I thought! Do you think filing in federal court in NY would help at all?

It’s not as simple as just filing in federal court. You’d need to prove the wiretap is unlawful and get a court subpoena, possibly through a civil rights case. That could give you a way to get the info you need from law enforcement.

@Keller
Oh, I see. So, I’d need to sue for my civil rights to get more information about the wiretap? That’s a big step.

@Keller
Yeah, but that’s one route to go. You’d likely need help from a lawyer who’s experienced in civil rights cases.

That’s a tough situation. I’m not sure what you can do without knowing where the wiretap was filed. You might need to talk to an attorney who can guide you through this legally.

Thanks for the advice! I’m going to look into it more. Hopefully, I can get some clarity soon.

You could file a civil rights lawsuit, but like Michael said, the wiretap orders are sealed, so finding out where it was filed will be your biggest challenge. It might be tough without the right info.

It really seems like it’s all about finding the right info first. Thanks for confirming that. I’ll have to look deeper into this.
