Hey, I need a copy to verify the retirement payments I get from my husband who has passed away. Anyone know how to get that? It’s called a beneficiary letter, I think… anyone dealt with this before?
I’m so sorry for your loss . For a verification letter, you’ll need to contact the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS). They can give you a ‘Verification of Pay’ letter, which shows the retirement payments. You can get it through the myPay platform or by calling them. Have you tried that yet?
@West
I haven’t tried that yet. Is myPay the website? I’m not too good with this tech stuff…

Yeah, myPay is their online platform. But if you’re not comfortable with it, you can just call them directly. They should help you get a letter over the phone too.
I had to go through this a few months ago. Make sure you also report your husband’s passing to DFAS if you haven’t already. They need to know so you can get any survivor benefits, like the Survivor Benefit Plan.
@Tegan
Oh, I didn’t know about that. How do I report it to them?

You can use the askDFAS Notification of Death form online, or just call them to report it. They’ll walk you through everything.
If you need more help, you can also contact Air Force Retiree Services. They might be able to help with any specific questions you have about the benefits.

Thanks, I’ll check them out. I didn’t know there were extra services for retirees. Is there a number I can call?
@Peyton
Yeah, their number is on the website. They should be able to assist you with any extra info you need. Here’s the link to the page: https://www.retirees.af.mil/
Just to clarify, DFAS is the main place to contact for military retirement pay stuff. So you’re on the right track!

Got it, thanks for confirming that! I’m new to all this and just want to make sure I’m doing everything right.
Yeah, DFAS can send the verification letter online through myPay or by phone. Don’t worry too much about tech stuff—just call them if you’re not feeling the online route.

Thanks! I’ll definitely call them. Much easier for me, lol.
