How can I renew my VHIC... any tips?

My VHIC is expiring soon (08/10/2024), and I’ve renewed it many times before. Just wondering how to go about it this time. I’m thinking of doing it by phone call, any ideas on what I need to do?

Hey, I had to renew mine last year. You can either do it online or in person. If you go in person, you’ll need to bring a current ID, like a driver’s license or passport. The VA center can help you with the photo too.

@Dior
Thanks for the info! I’m leaning toward phone call, but maybe in-person might be quicker if I need a new photo.

If you want to do it online, you’ll need an AccessVA account or one of the other sign-in options like ID.me. Just FYI, if you’re outside the U.S., you’ll need ID.me to verify your identity.

Oh, didn’t realize that about the ID.me account. Guess I’ll need to set that up if I go online.

I’ve done it online before, and it was pretty easy. Just make sure you’ve got your sign-in account ready (like Login.gov or DS Logon).

Thanks, I’ll check if I have one of those accounts already. Don’t want to hold things up.

Yeah, doing it online or over the phone should be pretty simple. Just follow the steps on the VA site. You can also get your new card during your next VA appointment if you go in person!

Good to know! Might just go in person then, so I can get it done during my next appointment.

One thing to remember is if your ID doesn’t show your address, you’ll need to bring something like a utility bill to prove it. Just a heads up!

Ah, good tip! I didn’t realize that. I’ll make sure to have a bill with me just in case.
