How do I file for a lost car title in NC?

I recently lost my car in an accident and I can’t find the title anywhere. I need to know how to file for a replacement car title in NC. Anyone know how to do this? I don’t know what steps to take.

I had to do this when I lost my title. It’s pretty straightforward, but if you have any issues, you can also do it online through the NC DMV website if you have an NC driver’s license. You just need to create an account.

Yeah, you should definitely check online if it’s available for your situation. I did mine all through the DMV’s online portal. Just remember that you’ll need to have your ID and the car’s info handy.

If you have any complications, like if you’re not the original owner, they might ask for more paperwork. Just FYI, you may need a notarized affidavit in some cases.

Good to know! Hopefully, that won’t be an issue, but I’ll keep that in mind just in case.
