so i’ve been in ny for 26 years, but i’m trying to get a texas driver’s license now. i lived in texas before, but idk what steps i need to take. haven’t moved back yet, just planning ahead. anyone been through this?
you gotta establish residency first. like get a place to live and update your address. then you can go to dps.

stuff like utility bills or a lease that shows your texas address. need at least 30 days there for proof.

got it, thanks. didn’t realize the 30-day thing.
make sure you bring your ny license and documents like your ssn card and proof of citizenship when you go.

oh yeah, my ny license is still valid. do i still have to take a driving test?

nah, as long as it’s valid and not expired, you should be good. but double-check with dps to be sure.

pretty similar. establish residency, bring docs like ssn and old license. might be easier to get an appointment tho.
