Hey everyone, I need some help. How do I make an appointment at the SOS in Westland MI to renew my expired driver’s license? I’ve been out of state for a while, and my license expired. I need to do this ASAP. Anyone know the process?
You can schedule an appointment online through the Michigan SOS website. Just enter your info, and it’ll help you figure out what documents you need. Here’s the link: https://dsvsesvc.sos.state.mi.us/TAP/_/#2
@Jules
Thanks for the link! I’ll check it out. Do you know if I need anything specific since my license has expired?
I had the same issue. If your license is expired, you’ll still be able to renew it within 60 days, but you’ll have to pay a late fee. Make sure to bring all the required documents.

Got it, thanks! I’ve been waiting for my birth certificate from NY, but it’s taking forever. Hopefully, I won’t need it for the standard renewal!
Yeah, the standard renewal shouldn’t need your parents’ names on the birth certificate unless you’re going for the new ID. You should be fine for the regular license renewal.

Awesome, that makes it a lot easier. I’ve got my passport with the old birth certificate, so I think I’m good to go for the standard one.
Also, be sure to check if there are any special rules since you’ve been out of state for a while. You may have to confirm your residency status or something.

Thanks for the heads-up! I haven’t seen anything about that yet, but I’ll keep an eye out. Appreciate it!
I’ve been there too. I had to get everything sorted quickly because my license had expired and I was already overdue. Just make sure you do it within the 60 days, or it might get more complicated.

Definitely, I don’t want to push it any longer. I’ll get on it today! Thanks for the advice!
