Hey, I just moved to North Carolina and need to transfer my Arizona driver’s license. I’ve already got an apartment and registered to vote here. What do I need to do to get this sorted? Also, how much does it cost? Any tips would be great, thanks!
You’ll need to bring your Arizona license, proof of residency (like a bill), your SSN card or proof of SSN, and proof of insurance. Have you been to the DMV yet?

Not yet. Do you know how much it’ll cost?

For license and registration, it’s about $150 total. But sadly, no payment plans available.
Wait, SSN card? Like your actual Social Security card?

Yeah, or anything that shows your SSN, like a pay stub. They just need proof you have a number.

Got it. I don’t get pay stubs, so I guess my card works.
If your Arizona registration is still valid, you technically don’t need to rush the car registration. Just focus on the license for now.

My AZ registration’s good until the end of November. Can I keep it that way for now?

Yeah, just keep the proof of registration in your car. If you get pulled over, they might just give you a warning since you’ve got insurance.
FYI, you can book DMV appointments online at ncdot.gov. Saves a ton of time!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll do that.
For voting, you can check ncsbe.gov for info on ID requirements and polling locations.

Good to know. I’ve already registered, but wasn’t sure about ID rules.

Even with an out-of-state ID, just bring proof of residency like a bill with your address. You should be fine.
