How do I transfer my NY license to FL after a DUI from CT... anyone know?

I just moved to FL from NY and I had a DUI in CT. My license is from NY, but I need to know how to get it transferred to FL. The DUI happened on 6/24/24, and I’m still in a court-ordered diversion program. Any ideas?

You should be able to transfer your license to FL as long as you’re in compliance with the terms of your diversion program and you’ve paid the restoration fee. It looks like you’re all set with that now! Just take proof of payment to the FL DMV.

@Hollis
What’s the restoration fee? Is that something I need to pay in FL, or is that something you paid in CT?

It’s the fee you pay to reinstate your driving privileges. You had to pay it in CT, but FL might ask for proof before transferring your license.

If you had an interlock requirement in CT, FL might want you to install one too. Did they mention that to you?

Yeah, I think so, but I haven’t installed it yet. I’m on long-term disability—are there exceptions in FL?

@Fallon
You could request resentencing in FL to potentially avoid the interlock requirement, but you should probably finish your diversion program first.

@Fallon
You’d need to request resentencing through the FL courts. I’m guessing it would be easier after you’ve completed all your program requirements.

You don’t need a lawyer to file for resentencing, but it could help. You can file pro se (by yourself), but it’s usually less confusing with a lawyer involved.

Just make sure you’re done with your diversion program first! FL will want to see that you’ve completed everything before they approve your license transfer.

Thanks for all the help! I guess I’ll get my proof of payment and head to the DMV. Hopefully, it goes smoothly!
