How does bifurcation work in a California divorce?

Hi there,

I need to split up my divorce from my ex because she’s pregnant and we can’t agree on other stuff yet.

I’m going to look at the papers they send me soon. I don’t have a lawyer because I can’t pay for one.

I’m confused about the part in the papers about health insurance (it’s the first thing in the photo you sent).

When it says “until judgement has been entered on all remaining issues and has become final,” does that mean until everything else is settled? Or just until the divorce is settled?

Is it like, “This rule stays until everything else is settled except for the divorce”? Or is it, “This rule stays until the divorce is settled”?

Hope that makes sense!

The part about health insurance in the papers likely means your ex and the baby stay on your insurance until the whole divorce is settled . Kind of like everything is on hold until everything is figured out. This makes sense because the court needs to decide about the baby, which often includes health insurance. Ideally, a lawyer would help sort this, but I know that’s not always easy.

Maybe try these:

Free legal consultations: Some lawyers offer free first meetings to chat.
Local bar association: They might have resources for people who can’t afford a lawyer.
Legal aid online: Some groups might offer limited help with family law.
