How should I handle this situation at work... advice?

Had a pretty intense argument with a coworker at work today. It almost got physical, and now I’m not sure what my next steps should be. I already told one of the brokers about it and asked them to note it down, just in case. This person was acting like the victim in front of the SVP even though he was the one escalating things. He even threatened to call HPD (Hawaii Police Department), so I told him to go ahead, but he backed off. I’m thinking about filing a police report, not because I want them to come here, but just to have a record in case anything else happens. Should I wait to hear back from the broker first, or go ahead and file the report?

Man, that sounds rough. Sometimes people really try to twist things to make themselves look like the victim. Honestly, if it were me, I’d probably go ahead with filing that report so you have something on record.

@Kai
Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking too. I feel like he’s trying to get everyone to believe his version of events.

@Kai
100%! Better to have a record, especially if he’s making a big show out of it in front of the SVP.

Maybe wait to see if the broker follows up first? I’ve been in a similar spot, and if HR or someone internally is already looking into it, that might be enough.

True, the broker might step in. Just worried he’ll spin this story to everyone before I get a chance to set things straight.

Honestly, it wouldn’t hurt to cover all bases. File the report just in case, especially if this guy’s trying to look like the victim.

Did he actually threaten you though, like verbally? I’m not sure if HPD would take it seriously unless there was a clear threat of violence.

No direct threat, just the way he was acting aggressive with a bottle in his hand. Felt like he wanted to push it into something physical.

Still seems worth having a record on file. Sometimes just the intent is enough to make you want to cover yourself legally.

Did you end up talking to HR? If there’s any footage, maybe ask if they can review it? Might help back up your side if this guy keeps escalating.

Yes, I spoke to them and they mentioned they’d look into it. I’ll definitely suggest they check the cameras too.

Smart! Having video evidence can make a huge difference, especially with these workplace drama situations.

Sounds like this guy’s just trying to save face in front of the higher-ups. Classic deflection tactic. Good luck, man.

Thanks! I think you’re right. Just trying to make sure my side is heard too.
