Is $70 Drone Work Worth It?

I’m not sure what Zeitview is thinking. Every time we take on missions like this, we’re allowing our skills to be undervalued.

They want $70 for Pix4D work? The software alone costs $400 a month! I’m lucky to get mine through my university, but if someone asked me to fly and process hundreds of images for that, I’d definitely say no.

Glad I never accepted any of those jobs.

@Morgan
They’re talking about the flight software. Fly and Pilot 2, which come with the drones, work fine for this kind of work.

Fair, but the pay is still way too low.

@Morgan
I completely agree. For me, it depends on the location and if I can do a few jobs in one day. It used to be that turning jobs down would lead to better offers, but now there are too many people willing to take low pay.

@Addison
I get it. When I was doing waypoint missions for a class with my Air 3, someone offered me $50 to drive 20 miles and take photos and videos of their property.

When I said $150 was more fair, we ended up in a heated argument.

@Morgan
Exactly. If we don’t push back on these rates, we’ll get exploited, just like in other jobs. Unfortunately, there will always be people who’ll take the low offers, and it ruins it for everyone else.

@Addison
Their photos will probably be garbage. Stick to your rates.

@Addison
If I find out someone’s working without their Part 107 and taking these lowball offers, I’m reporting them to the FAA.

A lot of networks I’ve joined don’t even ask for a Part 107.

@Morgan
Who was the beggar in that situation?

Some random guy looking for dirt-cheap labor. The argument got so bad, the cops showed up. Thankfully, they knew the rules for drones, so they didn’t take him seriously.

@Addison
You should value your time and skills more. Why try to do 10 jobs a day when you can do one well-paying job?

I’m satisfied with making $137/hr doing what I enjoy. These networks deal with big companies, and I get plenty of high-paying jobs. It’s all about finding the right balance.

@Morgan
When I last did photogrammetry work, DroneDeploy was about £100 per month. Has it changed?

If you’re paying £100 and doing a $70 job, that’s terrible. But if the job takes 30 minutes and you get a lot of these, it could add up. The trick is finding enough work to make it worth it.

Suddenly, I started getting emails asking me to upload my 107 cert, even though I haven’t done any jobs for them in years. Never see any good offers, so I asked to be removed, but they keep emailing me.

@Fin
Same thing happened to me. When I asked why I needed to upload my cert again, they threatened to delete my account. Oh well!

Same here. Just delete my account already!

If you’re relying on their jobs for income, you’re in trouble. You need to use multiple services and pick jobs that work for you. I made $30k freelancing last year on top of my full-time job.

I’ve been self-employed for over 5 years now.
