Is a name mismatch on TSA PreCheck and ID a problem?

So my TSA PreCheck has my full name as ‘Judith,’ but my Real ID license says ‘Judy.’ Has anyone else dealt with this? Wondering if it’s a problem or if I can just update it at my TSA PreCheck renewal?

I’ve had a similar situation! My PreCheck had my middle initial but my ID didn’t, and they didn’t give me trouble at the airport. I think they check a few other details too, like your birthday.

Oh good to know, thanks! I was worried they’d be strict about it.

I heard TSA uses a few verifications like Social Security and birthdate, so small differences usually aren’t a big deal.

Got it, sounds like it should be okay then. Thanks for the reassurance!

Yeah, they really just need to confirm it’s you. I’d say just make sure your ticket matches the name on your ID.

@Happy
Good tip. I’ll use ‘Judy’ on my tickets then, since that’s what’s on my ID!

If you really want to be safe, you could call TSA PreCheck. They might be able to update your name for you.

I haven’t tried contacting them, didn’t know I could update the name. Do you know if they have an online option?

They do! You can look up your PreCheck info on the TSA site and get the contact details there.

@Jay
Awesome, I’ll give that a try. Thanks for the info!

Honestly, I’d just keep the PreCheck name as ‘Judith’ and put ‘Judy’ on the ticket to match your ID. You should be fine.

Sounds like a solid plan. I’ll keep it simple and do that!

If you’re renewing your PreCheck soon, maybe that’s a good time to ask for the name update. They might have an option for it.

Good idea. I’ll check if they let you update at renewal. Thanks!
