I’m asking for my daughter, she lived with my mom for 5 years. My sister went over, told her she’d throw her things out, and my mom didn’t even stop her. Then, my sister just left my daughter at the airport after canceling her ticket. FYI, my daughter is 21 but mentally around 15. Does she have any rights in this?
Wow, that sounds rough! Did your daughter get an official eviction notice?

No, nothing official. Everything was just verbal.

I think in Texas they’d need to give her a 30-day notice, even if it’s family. Not a lawyer but heard something like that.
@Dorian
Yeah, that’s what I heard too. But she didn’t get anything. Just kicked her out.
Wait, your sister bought the plane ticket, then canceled it? That’s pretty messed up.

Exactly… My daughter ended up sleeping at the airport.

Can you even do that legally?? Leaving someone with no way home?

Not sure, but with her being mentally about 15, it feels wrong.
Did you try contacting a lawyer? This sounds like it could be an illegal eviction.

I haven’t yet. Just trying to see what rights she has first.

Honestly, might be worth it. Sometimes even a consult can help point you in the right direction.
If she’s mentally 15, could this count as neglect or abandonment?

Good question. My daughter does have sickle cell too, so it’s a big deal if she’s stranded.

With a disability involved, it might be treated more seriously. Like leaving a vulnerable person without care.
Any luck getting her stuff back from your mom’s place?

Nope, haven’t been able to yet.

That’s frustrating! Maybe check if the law requires they give her a chance to collect her belongings?
