Is there anyone to help against civilian injured by servicemen?

Hey, has anyone here dealt with a situation where a civilian was injured by servicemen? I’m looking for advice on how to handle it. The civilian was held down and beaten by multiple servicemen, and it happened in Illinois back in October 2023. I’m just wondering if there’s any help out there for this type of case.

Wow, that sounds awful. Has this incident been reported to the authorities? I would think you’d need to get legal help for something like this.

Yeah, it was reported. The civilian was peeled off the floor by police officers and released right after. The case got dropped in court though.

@Azriel
That’s crazy. If it’s already been dropped, I’m not sure what can be done now, but it’s definitely worth talking to a lawyer to see if there’s a civil case. You could try contacting a personal injury lawyer for advice.

I’ve heard of people dealing with similar situations before. You might want to talk to an Employment Lawyer since it involves servicemen. They could point you in the right direction on how to proceed legally.

@Reid
That’s a good idea. I’ve been thinking about reaching out to a lawyer. Any tips on how to find the right one?

You can try contacting the local bar association for a referral or even the legal aid society. They might offer free or low-cost services.

Did you get a police report from the incident? That might help if you need to go forward with any legal actions.

Yes, I do have the police report, but it doesn’t list the names of the people who assaulted me. It just has the court date and charge on it.

@Azriel
Ah, that’s tricky. You’ll probably need the names to file a suit. Maybe try getting those details through the state court or the police department?

If you don’t have the names yet, you might be able to find them through the court records. Once you have those, you could file a complaint for the assault.

Got it, I’ll check with the court for the names. Thanks for the tip! Hopefully, I can get this sorted soon.

Sorry to hear about this. You might want to try legal aid or even law school clinics for help with this kind of case. They usually offer assistance for things like this, especially if it’s tough to find a lawyer on your own.

@Hayden
I didn’t even think of that! I’ll look into legal aid and law school clinics. Thanks so much for the suggestion!
