I was issued two PCNs within an hour while parked in the same spot. The weird part is that neither of them left a yellow ticket on my windshield. I only found out when I got the letters with pictures showing both PCNs. I appealed, saying I never received the yellow tickets, and I pointed out that in one of the pictures, there’s no ticket on the windshield. But they responded saying my appeal isn’t valid because I’m not the registered owner. I’ve paid fines before without issues about being the registered owner, though. My husband even replied to say he’s aware of the situation and agrees with the appeal. But I’ve heard nothing back since, and now the fine has gone up to £110 per ticket. I’m worried they didn’t even acknowledge my appeal, and I don’t think it’s fair to ask me to pay more. I’d pay the original fine, but not this amount. Any advice on what I should do next?
That sounds really frustrating! I think your next step should be to contact Richmond Council directly and ask them to update you on your appeal. Make sure to include all your correspondence and emphasize that you never got a yellow ticket on your car. You should also point out the fact that they haven’t acknowledged your appeal yet. If they still don’t respond, you might need to escalate it to the Traffic Penalty Tribunal.
@Noah
Thanks, that helps! I’ll reach out to them and include everything. Hopefully they’ll take this seriously.
Yeah, it’s kind of odd that they didn’t leave a ticket on your car. It definitely raises questions about how they issued the PCNs. If you have evidence that your appeal was within the required timeframe, that should work in your favor. Make sure you mention that if the council hasn’t responded properly!
@Jamie
I’ll make sure to include that in my next email. I just don’t want them to keep ignoring me.
I had something similar happen with a local council. They didn’t acknowledge my appeal either, and the fine kept going up. I ended up taking it to the Traffic Penalty Tribunal, and they sided with me because the council didn’t follow proper procedures. It’s worth considering if they keep dragging their feet.
@Abi
That’s good to know! I didn’t realize I could take it to the tribunal. I’ll definitely consider that if things don’t get sorted soon.
I think the council’s failure to acknowledge your appeal is a big issue here. The fine should not have increased if they didn’t properly respond to your appeal in time. You’ve got a valid point, especially with the missing ticket in the photo. Keep pushing them on this!
@Hart
I’m definitely going to keep at it. I’m not going to pay the higher fine without a proper explanation.
I’ve heard that councils sometimes get tricky with appeals. If you can prove that the ticket wasn’t on your car, that’s definitely something you should keep highlighting. If it goes beyond this, definitely escalate to the tribunal. They’ll take a proper look at everything.
@Vinn
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll emphasize the missing ticket and take it further if I have to.
