So I met this guy online who says he’s a marine, and we’ve been talking for a few months. Now he’s saying his bank account is frozen because of a fine for going AWOL, and he can’t pay it, so he can’t come home. He’s asking me to give him my login info so he can deposit checks from a third party into my account. Is this normal or a red flag?
Uhhh, yeah, that sounds super fishy to me. Asking for your login info is a huge red flag . I’ve heard of scams like this.

That’s what I was thinking too! I had this gut feeling it was off. Have you actually seen this happen?

It’s a common scam. They call it the ‘stranded soldier scam’ where they act like they’re stuck and need your help. Pretty sure it’s always a scam.
I saw something like this online. It’s usually scammers pretending to be military personnel because people trust that. Definitely don’t give him your login info!

Yeah, the whole thing sounds sketchy now that I think about it. Guess I wanted to be sure before calling it out.

Yep, good instincts. Better safe than sorry! If he’s real, he wouldn’t need your login info to get home.
Whoa, that’s rough. If he’s truly in the military, they should have resources to help him get back. No need for your info.

Right? I figured the military would cover stuff like this if he was legit.
Yikes, sounds like a typical scam to me. They love asking for personal info. Next, he’ll probably ask for money too.

He actually hasn’t asked for money yet, but I guess that would be the next step, huh?

Yep, that’s usually how it goes. They start slow and then start asking for cash for ‘emergencies’ or ‘fines.’ Don’t fall for it.
Definitely trust your gut on this one. I’d cut ties and avoid sharing any personal info. Way too risky!

Thanks for the advice! I think I’m going to follow it and not share anything more.
