My child is facing harassment at school... what are our rights?

Hey everyone… I’m in a tough situation. My 7-year-old is being sexually harassed by a 9-year-old classmate at his CPS school in Chicago. We’ve reported 5 incidents since January 2024. The school won’t move the other child without parental consent, and we’ve kept our son home since the last incident. What rights do we have in this situation? Any advice would be appreciated!

I’m really sorry to hear that. It’s awful when schools don’t take these things seriously. Have you thought about talking to a lawyer?

That sounds really frustrating. Is there a school district office you can escalate this to? They might have more power to act.

This is heartbreaking… just know you’re not alone. I went through something similar with my kid. We had to keep fighting for them.

I can’t believe the school is just letting this happen. You have every right to demand a safe environment for your child.

Have you filed a complaint with the district or state? That might help escalate things if the school isn’t acting.
