My employer recorded our convo... is it even legal

Hey, so I found out my employer in Georgia recorded a convo we had without asking me or even letting me know. Like, is that even legal? And if they use it against me, what can I do about it? Anyone know how this stuff works?

In Georgia, it’s a one-party consent state, so technically, they can record if one person in the convo knows. Sucks, but that’s the law.

Wait, what’s a one-party consent state? Never heard of it.

@Van
It means only one person in the convo has to know it’s being recorded. So, if they knew, they didn’t need to tell you.

@Van
Ahh, got it now. Thanks for explaining!

If they use it against you, maybe consult an employment lawyer? They can help you figure out if it violates any other rights.

Yeah, I might have to. Was just wondering if anyone here had dealt with something like this before.

If it’s for work purposes, they probably thought it was fine. Not cool though if they didn’t tell you.

Yeah, even if it’s legal, it feels sneaky. I’d be annoyed too.

Exactly! It’s more about the principle, you know?

Maybe check if your company has policies about recording convos. Sometimes they have to follow internal rules even if it’s legal.

Good point. I’ll check if there’s anything in the employee handbook.

FYI, this happens more than you’d think. Companies love covering their bases.

Yeah, but they should at least give a heads-up. Feels shady otherwise.

Totally agree. Transparency is key, but not all employers care about that.
