My roommate moved out and is refusing to pay her share of the rent, which is $3,900 for January through May. Our landlord said we are all jointly liable, and if she doesn’t pay, all three of us will be sent to collections.
What should we do?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Don’t worry; there are solutions! First, review your lease agreement to discover if everyone is accountable for the entire rent amount, even if someone walks out. Then, speak with your previous flatmate and explain the situation. If they are willing to pay, obtain a written agreement for repayment. If not, notify your landlord and ask if they can arrange a payment plan for you and your remaining housemates. Finally, if your ex-roommate continues to be unpleasant, you could try suing them in small claims court to recover your money. There are resources online to assist you with this procedure.
