My sister lied and filed emergency custody of my son... what can I do?

So my sister lied and somehow got emergency custody of my son in Georgia. I didn’t even know this could happen. I’m trying to figure out what to do next, but I feel completely blindsided. Anyone been through something like this?

I’ve been following this for a few days. If what you’re saying is true, there should be a paper trail. The state wouldn’t just hand over your kid to someone without paperwork, especially not your sister. What’s your side of the story?

If your living situation was that bad, CPS might have stepped in for good reason. Even if your sister lied, they wouldn’t just remove your son without evidence. You should try to get legal help and sort this out.

@Tanner
I get that, but if there was no electricity and little food, that could’ve been enough for CPS to get involved. Still, it seems weird that they’d just hand your child over to your sister.

@Pierce
Yeah, I’m trying to figure out how to get a lawyer. I just feel like I’m stuck and not sure where to start.

Try reaching out to legal aid in your area. They might be able to help if you can’t afford a lawyer. Also, gather any evidence you have to prove that your son was safe.

Something seems off here. CPS doesn’t just take kids because someone says something. There has to be more to the story or a lot of paperwork involved. Maybe it’s time to ask for everything in writing from CPS.

@Brett
I’m honestly trying to get the paperwork. It feels like they did this without telling me what’s really going on.

Yeah, definitely get copies of everything—court filings, CPS reports, everything. You have a right to see what’s being said about you.

If your sister lied on legal documents, that’s a serious issue. You could potentially file charges for perjury. But first, focus on getting your son back by going through the legal system. Do you have any support, like friends or family who can help?

@Nico
Not really, it’s just me trying to figure this out. I didn’t realize she would go this far.

That’s tough. But you’re not alone. Get legal help ASAP and start building your case. And remember, if she lied, it could come back to bite her.

Have you looked into legal insurance? I got it through MetLife, and it’s been a lifesaver. Might be something to check out if you’re struggling to afford a lawyer.

I hadn’t thought of that, but I’ll look into it. Thanks for the suggestion.

@Tanner
No problem! It’s really helpful for things like this. Best of luck getting your son back.
