My son got two misdemeanors while riding his electric bike... what should we do?

So my 19-year-old son, Marlon, got two misdemeanors yesterday while riding his electric bike on Key Marathon. We’re on vacation here, but we live in Cape Coral, Florida. He’s got to appear in court on December 12, and honestly, I’m not sure what to do next. I’m really hoping this won’t end up on his record. Anyone have any advice on how to handle this?

Ugh, that sounds stressful. I’m not sure about the exact laws in Florida, but I think if Marlon gets his bike properly registered and gets the motor vehicle endorsement, he could get the charges reduced to a civil traffic infraction. It’s worth looking into!

@Sage
That’s actually a good idea! I’ll check into the registration and endorsement stuff. Fingers crossed that helps!

Oh man, I can imagine how overwhelming this must be. Honestly, the fact that he’s doing this so young and on vacation could play in his favor if he acts quickly. If he gets the registration sorted and provides proof, the state may reduce the charge. Definitely worth talking to a lawyer!

@Sky
Thanks for the reassurance. I’m definitely thinking about reaching out to a lawyer. It’s just so unexpected.

Yeah, I’ve heard of cases where people have avoided having it on their record just by taking action quickly. If he handles the bike’s registration and endorsement, the court might even be willing to change the misdemeanors to a traffic infraction instead.

@Yun
I didn’t even know that was an option! I’ll make sure Marlon gets everything squared away before court. Thanks!

I think it’s also important to show that he’s being responsible now. If he can prove he’s fixed the issue and acted quickly, that could really help when he goes to court. Don’t stress too much, this should be fixable.

@Koa
That’s a good point. I’ll have him gather any proof that he’s taken the right steps to get everything in order.

I had a similar situation a while ago, and the lawyer helped me get everything handled. If you can show that Marlon’s taking care of the bike’s registration and endorsement, they’ll likely reduce the charges. You’re on the right track!

@Zara
Sounds promising! I’ll definitely follow up with a lawyer to make sure everything’s handled the right way.
