Neighbor is sending me (married female) unsolicited nudes

Hey everyone. Excuse me if this sounds weird, this just happened, so I’m pretty shaken up. I (28F) live in Georgia (USA). My neighbor has recently been texting me unsolicited nude videos even after I made it clear to him that I was not interested.

He’s getting more pushy about it and is sitting out on his porch staring and waving at me every time I go outside.

I work from home and my husband has a typical 9-5, so it’s obvious when I am home alone.

He has come to the door before, but not since he started sending the videos.

I’m not sure if there’s anything illegal about what he is doing. I am VERY scared. He has made it clear that he doesn’t care whether I am interested or not. The amount of texts and videos are escalating.

I’ve had a similar situation before that I ignored, and it did turn into something happening.

Is this illegal? Is there anything I can do other than add more security cameras, lock doors, and exercise my 2nd amendment rights?

TIA

You can go to the police. Is it not clear that it’s him in the videos?

It is clear. It wasn’t originally, but now he’s sending ones with his face in them.

I’m actually waiting for an officer to show up now.

The problem is that, according to GA Code 16-11-90, it isn’t illegal because it only shows him in the videos.

@Kingsley
Look at 16-11-39.1 regarding harassing communications

@Kingsley
Let us know what happens after you speak with the officer!

They gave me a case number and a website to upload proof that I’ve asked him to stop. They said I can use the case number to apply for a TPO, but there’s no guarantee it will be approved without a direct threat.

@Kingsley
Did you tell them he’s been messaging you from different numbers after you blocked him? That could be evidence you’ve asked him to stop.

I’m really sorry you’re going through this. I can’t fathom someone doing this to another person. Some people are just unhinged.

@Vern
Yes, I did mention that.

Look into cyberstalking laws. This could be considered harassment, especially given he keeps finding new ways to contact you after being blocked.

It doesn’t matter. It came from his phone, so there is a digital trail of him sending it to you.

Yes, his behavior is likely illegal. See statute below. Call the police. Hire an attorney and start the process of obtaining a restraining order in addition to pressing charges.

This is digital sexual harassment, and yes, the police can take action. Get a no-contact order. If he continues, he could face jail time.

Already have.

You need to document all the incidents and texts and file a police report for cyberstalking and sexual harassment.

Alternatively, you could hire a civil attorney to send a cease-and-desist letter. Sometimes, just receiving a legal letter scares people off.

Either way, keep collecting evidence in case it escalates.

Have you told your husband? He should be involved in this situation.

Yes, I have. We’ve decided to wait until we speak with an officer before confronting him, just in case the officer suggests otherwise.

He’s messaged me from three different numbers now.

You might need to change your phone number and be careful about who has it. Make sure to report this to the police. Also, consider getting a restraining order and adding more security to your home.

I went through something similar, and my neighbor escalated to physical assault and stalking. I had to move out of state. Please take this seriously, secure your home, carry pepper spray, and check if he has a criminal record.

You can sue for harassment and also for receiving unwanted texts. In some cases, you could be entitled to compensation for each text.
