Hi everyone, I just found out about a Parent Plus loan that came due 10 years ago, but I was never notified. This is the first time I’ve been made aware of it. Has anyone else dealt with something like this? Any advice on what to do next? It hasn’t impacted my credit, surprisingly.
That’s wild! Did they send anything to your wife’s email or old address? Sometimes they mess up contact info.

Nope, nothing I can find. We’ve moved a couple of times, so maybe that’s part of it?

Could be. You might want to call the loan servicer and double-check their records.
Have you checked your credit reports for any mention of the loan? That might help piece things together.

Yeah, nothing shows up on my credit reports. It’s like it didn’t exist until now.

That’s super weird. If it’s not on your credit, maybe it’s an internal error on their side?
Were you or your wife ever notified about this loan before? Like when it was taken out?

Not that I know of. My wife doesn’t remember signing anything either.

You might need to request documentation from the lender to confirm if it’s legit.
I’d reach out to a lawyer who specializes in education loans. They can help sort through this mess.

Good idea. I wasn’t sure if this is something worth hiring a lawyer for, but it’s sounding like it might be.

Definitely worth it. They can figure out if there’s a way to contest this since you weren’t notified.
If it hasn’t hit your credit, that’s a good sign. Just don’t ignore it—contact the servicer ASAP.

Yeah, I’ll give them a call soon. Hoping it’s just a mistake on their end.

Let us know what you find out. Fingers crossed it’s just a mix-up!
