Question About Prepaid Legal and What It Covers—Do I Even Have It if I Didn't Sign Up for It?

I’m wondering if prepaid legal services are automatically available to Teamsters, or if it’s something you have to sign up for separately. I think I got something in the mail a few years ago about signing up for it, but I haven’t seen anything since.

Right now, I’m facing a possible divorce with my wife due to the amount of time I spend working (I’m a full-time driver on an extended route) and other issues. We have two young children, ages 2 and 4. I’ve heard that divorces involving children can easily cost over $20k.

Does anyone have experience using prepaid legal services for a divorce? Does it even cover divorce proceedings? I’d appreciate any advice from someone who’s been in a similar situation. I don’t want to break up the family, but it feels like things are already broken.

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

In my region, it doesn’t cover family matters. It’s also something you have to sign up for and pay for monthly. Maybe it’s not region-specific, but is this what you’re referring to: the Teamster Privilege Legal Plan? You can get a free consultation on divorce, but that’s about it.

Thank you. Guess I’m on my own.

You can get a free consult with pretty much any divorce lawyer.

Are you referring to the West region?

Central region, specifically in South Dakota
