Just received my Grand Jury duty summons (please hold the applause).
I am in the middle of medical school, specifically in my third year, and deep into clinical rotations. Is this a valid reason to be excused from jury duty? I have heard that getting out of it can be tough. If it weren’t for this critical stage in my education, I would serve, but it’s just not feasible right now.

I am not sure about grand jury duty specifically, but in my experience, being a student is accepted as a valid excuse for jury duty. You’ll likely need to provide proof of enrollment and your graduation date, and they’ll typically defer your selection until after you graduate.

You can get a deferral for school, including medical rotations. It’s not a big deal—just let them know when you’ll be available to serve.

It depends on your location.
I had a similar situation with grad school and had to request a postponement. I didn’t get out of it entirely, but they did defer it.
