Hi everyone, I need some advice. I sent a request for an IEP meeting for my child over 45 days ago and haven’t heard back from the school. I sent it to the principal, assistant principal, state director, and district director here in Massachusetts. Not sure what to do next if they don’t respond… any suggestions?
That’s frustrating! In MA, they’re supposed to respond within 45 days. You could try following up in writing again to keep a record.

Good idea. I was thinking of sending a reminder. Hopefully, that gets their attention.

Definitely worth a try! Sometimes a little nudge does the trick.
If they still don’t respond, you might consider filing a complaint with the state’s office of administrative hearings. It’ll let them know you’re serious.

Thanks! I didn’t know I could do that. Good to know there’s another step if needed.

Yeah, it’s like a formal way of saying, ‘Hey, don’t ignore us!’ Schools usually respond faster after that.
I’d recommend consulting an attorney if the school keeps stalling. They can help with filing for due process and ensure the school takes action.

Good point! I’ll definitely consider it if I hit a wall. Just hoping it doesn’t come to that.
Just to add, if they don’t resolve it through mediation, you can request a hearing. But usually, it doesn’t get that far.

Thanks, that’s reassuring! I’m glad there are steps in place to make sure it’s handled.
Also, if you have any documentation or legal references like the IDEA, bring those to the next follow-up. It shows you know the process.

Great idea! I’ll make sure to bring those details. Thanks for the help!
