School sending my son home without proper paperwork… what can I do?

My son has an IEP, but his school keeps sending him home as an emergency removal without doing the proper paperwork. His tantrums are getting worse, and I really think he needs to leave Lynn’s public school. Has anyone dealt with this?

That sounds frustrating. Schools are supposed to follow certain steps with an IEP before they just send a kid home.

Exactly, but it feels like they’re not respecting the process. Any tips on what I can do?

Have you tried a formal demand letter? Sometimes schools respond better when it’s in writing.

If they’re not following the IEP, that’s a serious issue. You might want to look into getting legal advice on this.

Good point. Do you think a lawyer would make a difference in how they treat his case?

You might consider filing a complaint with the state’s education department. They oversee IEP compliance.

I hadn’t thought of that… sounds like a good step. Thanks!

Make sure to keep a record of each time they send him home without paperwork. It helps if you end up filing a complaint.

Yeah, documentation is key. Schools tend to act more responsibly when they know a record is being kept.

If the IEP isn’t being followed, that’s a big deal. They’re legally obligated to provide those accommodations.

Thanks! It’s just hard to get them to take it seriously. I’ll try pushing harder.
