Got a ticket for driving 92 in a 65 zone on I-85 near Wahalla, SC. My record’s totally clean, no prior tickets. I swear I wasn’t going that fast—been careful with my speedometer. I’m worried about the points (6!) and my insurance going up. Any advice? Can I get it reduced? Nolo plea? Anyone dealt with something similar?
Yeah, you can probably ask the court to lower the charge, especially since your record’s clean. Did the officer say anything about defensive driving?

Nah, no mention of that. Do you know how that works?

You just take a class, and it might reduce points. SC courts sometimes suggest it—worth asking!
If you can talk to the officer before court, sometimes they agree to reduce it. Just be super polite and explain your situation.

Thanks! So just tell them I’ve got a clean record and don’t think I was speeding?

Yep, exactly! And maybe mention you’re using cruise control now to stay under the limit.
What’s a nolo plea? I see people mention it, but IDK how it works.

Nolo = no contest. You’re not admitting guilt, but it’s treated like guilty in SC. In GA, it might keep points off your license tho.

Got it. So it’s like a softer guilty plea? Sounds confusing lol.
Check Speedtrap.org for info on speed traps in the area. Sometimes the ticket zones are sketchy.

Thanks, I checked but didn’t find anything for Wahalla. Maybe I’ll bring it up in court if I can.

Even if you don’t find anything, just having a clean record and being polite helps a ton.
Good luck! I had a similar ticket and got it reduced by explaining my clean record. You’ll be fine if you’re respectful.
