So I was removed from a floor I’ve been working on for a while and told I couldn’t work there anymore because of some issue they said I had. The thing is, I was never told about any problems until I tried to make that floor my primary assignment. Then I got reprimanded out of nowhere. Isn’t my employer supposed to let me know if there’s an issue before taking action? Has anyone else gone through something like this?
That’s rough. Did they give you any written warnings or anything before this happened?

Nope, nothing at all. I even got a 3 out of 4 on my last performance review, so this came out of nowhere.

Wait, what does 3 out of 4 mean? Is that good or bad?

It’s good! Basically means I was doing well, so I’m confused why they’re suddenly acting like there’s a problem.
Sounds like they skipped a few steps. Most places have a process—like verbal warnings, written notices, etc. Did they follow any of that?

Nope, nothing. I was told those steps exist, but they didn’t use them at all.

That’s sketchy. You might want to check your company’s policy handbook. If they didn’t follow their own rules, you could have a case.
I’d talk to HR or a union rep if you have one. This doesn’t sound fair at all.

Yeah, I’m thinking about it. Just feels like such a weird situation to be in.
FYI, some employers try to pull this stuff to avoid giving reasons. It’s shady, but it happens.

Ugh, that’s frustrating. I just wish they’d been upfront about it from the start.
If you’re in the US, you might want to look into wrongful discipline claims. This sounds like it could qualify.

I’ll look into that, thanks. I’m just trying to figure out my options at this point.
