What are my options after someone hit my mailbox?

a guy hit my brick mailbox a few months ago. he actually came to my door the next day and admitted it, which was cool of him. i got estimates to fix it ($1200), but he thought that was too much. now he’s ghosting me—he’s not replying to my texts or emails. the police said they can’t do anything since we agreed to handle it outside of legal stuff. any advice? fyi, i’m in dallas, tx.

ugh, that’s so annoying. maybe try sending another demand letter? sometimes people respond better when they get something formal.

what’s a demand letter? never heard of it.

oh, it’s like a formal letter asking them to pay up. usually gives a deadline too. google has templates for it!

small claims court might be your best bet. i know it’s a hassle, but if they don’t show, you could still win.

last time i did small claims, i won but didn’t get paid. the judge was just like ‘good luck.’ idk if it’s worth it.

yeah, even if you win, collecting the money can be hard. you’d have to enforce the judgment yourself, like garnishing wages or liens.

did the guy text or email you admitting he hit it? that could help in court.

he sent me a text saying he was sorry. not sure if that’s enough proof though.

it might be enough. keep all the texts and emails as evidence. courts like written proof.

honestly, if the guy’s your neighbor’s brother, maybe talk to your neighbor? they might be able to nudge him into paying.

that’s a good idea. kinda awkward though since i don’t wanna start drama with my neighbor.

nah, just keep it chill. like, ‘hey, can you talk to your brother? this is getting frustrating.’

appreciate all the advice, y’all. gonna give some of this a shot and see what happens. wish me luck.
