What happens if I register a gun after 60 days... is that an issue?

I inherited a gun years ago, and I just realized it hasn’t been registered yet. It’s been over 60 days now, so I’m wondering if I can still register it without any problems? Anyone know if this will cause any issues if I do it now?

If it’s past 60 days, I don’t think it’s a big issue unless it’s a banned weapon in your state. But double-check just in case :thinking:

Thanks for that! I was a bit worried. Just to confirm, it’s not an assault weapon, so I should be fine, right?

@Jin
Yeah, as long as it’s not banned or considered an assault weapon, you should be good to go. :blush:

I had a similar situation and was able to register it after more than 60 days without any issue. The only time it’d be a problem is if it’s a restricted weapon.

Good to know! I’ll make sure to check if it’s restricted before registering. Appreciate the help .

I would just make sure the date you list on the form is as close as possible to when you actually inherited it, even if you just found it in a box. Shouldn’t be an issue though.

Ah, okay, that makes sense! I thought maybe it’d be a problem if I put the date as when I found it.

I’ve heard of people having no issues after a long delay, as long as they’re honest on the form. Just check if it’s not a banned weapon and you should be fine.

Thanks for confirming! I’ll go ahead and register it soon.

You should be alright unless it’s something like an assault weapon. The 60 days rule is more of a guideline, not a strict deadline for non-restricted firearms.

Great, that clears it up! I appreciate all the info everyone .:smile:
