What happens when someone picks up a theft charge while on parole... anyone know?

Hey everyone, my boyfriend was out on parole when he got arrested for assault and two technical parole violations. The assault charge was dismissed, but the parole officer gave us some bad advice to waive his rights to a hearing, thinking it would speed up the process… yeah, it just sped up his revocation back to prison! Now, while he was out for just a few minutes, he got another charge for theft. What happens now? Can they give him extra time, or does he just stay until his original release date? I’m really trying to figure this out… any ideas?

That’s rough. If he’s already been revoked, he could still face additional time for the theft charge, but it really depends on the judge. It might not be a huge sentence though, especially if they run it concurrently with his current time.

@Jalen
Yeah, I’ve seen situations where the time runs together. Hope it works out for him! :pray:

Wow, that’s crazy! So the theft charge came up after a hospital incident? Was that before or after he got back on parole? Could be important for his case.

Yeah, it was right after he got out of an induced coma from a motorcycle accident. He freaked out and assaulted a security guard, but those charges were dropped. Then, the theft happened while he was out for just a few minutes…

I’m guessing it’s up to the judge, right? Especially with the theft being a smaller amount? It seems like it might not be too bad, but still…

Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking too. Just hoping it doesn’t mess up his chance of getting out early. :roll_eyes:

I know it’s hard, but sometimes the parole board can show some leniency depending on the circumstances. Hopefully the judge is understanding of everything.

I really hope so! Fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:

Man, a theft charge for peanuts? That’s wild. But yeah, the lawyer might try to get the time to run concurrently with the existing sentence. It’s a bit of a mess, but that could help.

I know, right? It was such a small thing, but the cops just added it. I’m just hoping for some good news soon.
