What should I do if the other party wants cash after an accident?... advice needed

I was in a car accident driving my brother’s car on the 8th. The police weren’t called, and neither of us have insurance. Now, they’re trying to pressure me to pay them in cash. I don’t know what to do… anyone been through something like this?

That sounds really stressful. In this situation, it’s important to stay calm and not give in to pressure. If they’re saying they have a sore back, you might want to get their statement in writing just in case they try to escalate it. Did they ask for the cash upfront?

@Corey
Yeah, that’s exactly what happened to me last year. They kept pushing for cash without involving insurance. I ended up talking to a lawyer, and they advised me not to pay directly. It’s better to go through insurance, even if you don’t have it.

@Corey
Good advice, thanks! I didn’t think about involving a lawyer but that makes sense. How did your situation turn out?

It took a little while, but everything got sorted. The other party ended up getting their medical checked out, and I didn’t have to deal with the pressure anymore. Definitely get legal help if they keep pushing.

I agree with the others. I’d also recommend gathering any evidence, like witness statements or photos, to back up your side of the story. Not having insurance complicates things, but it’s better to deal with it the right way.

@Ainsley
I’ve got witnesses, so that’s good. I wasn’t sure if I should even talk to them without insurance… guess I need to be careful about that.

Definitely be cautious. You don’t want to get stuck in a situation where they try to claim more than what happened. Having everything documented is key.

It sounds like the other party might be fishing for money. Have you considered calling a lawyer to help you sort through the situation? I think that’s a good next step.

I was thinking about that. I’m just not sure what they can do without insurance. Would a lawyer still be helpful?

@Sky
Absolutely! A lawyer can help you navigate this even without insurance. They’ll know what’s legal and what your options are. You don’t want to risk paying unnecessarily.

I think the best thing to do is handle this the right way from the start. Get legal advice and don’t let them pressure you into paying directly. You need to protect yourself.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll reach out to a lawyer. I was just worried about getting my license suspended if I don’t settle this.

@Sky
Understandable, but a lawyer can help you avoid that. They’ll make sure everything’s handled so your license stays intact.
